Convention Sources identifies standard rules or guidelines for describing bibliographic resources, commonly called cataloging rules, and assigns a code to each source. The purpose of this list is to enable the source of description guidelines in metadata records to be indicated by a code.

A provider turns a local unique identifiers from a resource into a URI. Many providers are also resolvable as URLs (i.e., they can be used in a web browser).
The local unique identifier amim is used to demonstrate the providers
available for Library of Congress Description Conventions. Some providers may use a different example, which is displayed in the table below.
