In many areas of scholarly work, controlled vocabularies (gazetteers, thesauri, etc.) play a crucial role as a stable reference in the creation of resources as well as for ensuring interoperability between disparate projects and their data. The ILC4CLARIN vocabulary platform provides services and tools that allow for the collaborative maintenance and publication of vocabularies and taxonomies of any kind. The ILC4CLARIN vocabulary platform is based on the open-source Skosmos software which uses SKOS as its underlying data model. This software allows for the browsing of vocabularies with structured concept displays and the visualisation of concept hierarchies. Vocabularies can be queried via a search interface or by consulting an alphabetical or thematic index. With the ILC4CLARIN vocabulary platform they can also be accessed via a REST-API. This platform was conceived as a vocabulary hosting service for partners of the national CLARIN-IT consortium, H2IOSC project, and is intended to contribute to the future federation of vocabulary platforms within the SSH Open Cluster.
